((Whoaa sorry I've been working like crazy the past couple of days so I haven't been on much. >.< And proboards ate my reply. D; ))
The Doctor's brow creased as he tried to think of a story he had that didn't turn into a horror story at some point. He supposed he could always make one up or tell one of his earlier days when things were a little more simple. "Do you have any good stories then?" He asked as the fire grew bigger, illuminating their surroundings a little bit more.

(It's okay ^^ I figured you were busy. >< *kicks Proboards* Stupid Proboards)
Ivy tilted her head as she thought. A lot of the stories she heard as a child were of the creatures that lurked in the woods surrounding their village . . . and Ivy didn't think that given their current situation, those stories would lighten the mood. However . . . .
Ivy smiled. "I think I have one . . ." she finally said.

((And I have to go back to work in two hours. *sigh* I get so anxious before work then I go in and have lots of fun everyday. I don't understand. ))
"Excellent!" The Doctor said, clapping his hands together. He sat down at a comfortable distance from the fire and looked at her expectantly. "Any time you're ready to start."

(Awww, well I'm sure you'll have LOOOOADS of fun. ^^ But yeah, I know that feeling XDD You work at Disneyland, right?)
Ivy chuckled and smiled, clasping her hands in her lap and sitting up straight, clearing her throat. "Alright. Well . . . there was a young girl of only fourteen. Her name was Gudrun, and she worked as a maid in a small town in Iceland. She was extremely brave and merry, which was needed, as her workplace was rumored to be haunted. People said that night trolls roamed there.
But despite the whisperings, Gudrun liked her home. She liked it even though she was the lowest ranking servant, which meant that she was left behind to look after the master and mistress' infant daughter when they and the rest of the household went to a neighboring farm for a celebration. Gudrun stayed in the nursery with the child, fed it, and rocked it to sleep, and would have fallen asleep in her rocking chair had not a peculiar noise awoken her. It was the sound of something scratching at the front door of the house. The door squeaked as the animal tried to make its way in, but the door held. Gudrun waited, and then saw movement out the window. She turned, and saw a night-troll's enormous face pressed against the glass of the window with it's eyes fixed on the cradle.
Gudrun looked away and sat perfectly still, her hands clenched in her lap. Then she smiled grimly and in a loud, clear voice, recited
'An iron gray with a flaxen tail, and a brass boy driving,'
Gudrun had challenged the creature to a contest whose rules were obeyed by all beings that could speak. The opponents would pose each other riddles, and whoever could not answer lost and would be at the mercy of the winner. The troll had no choice but to answer the challenge.
'Iron gray: needle. Flaxen tail: thread. Brass boy: thimble,' the troll responded before laughing. Now it had become the riddler.
"Brothers and sisters have I none, but that man's father is my father's son,"
Gudrun replied at once. 'That man is the riddler's son,'
This went on for hours, them posing riddles at each other. Gudrun grew weary and her voice hoarse, but she still answered and posed riddles, keeping the troll at bay.
At last, when Gudrun's candle was but a puddle of wax, the troll posed this riddle: 'Thirty white horses upon a red hill; now they champ, now they stamp, now they stand sill,'
By this point Gudrun was trembling with fatigue, and she hesitated. Her silence lengthened, and the troll laughed. But at last she had the answer. 'Your teeth and your tongue,' she said.
The troll snarled, and moved away from the window for a moment, revealing to Gudrun something that gave her hope.
'On yonder hill there is a red deer. The more you shoot, the more you may, you cannot drive that deer away,' Gudrun said. The only reply she got from the troll was a howl of anger as it moved from the window and ran away, allowing the the warm early-morning sunlight to filter into the room. Gudrun sank to the floor in exhaustion, but then stood up and looked out the window. Where the troll had been, there was only a boulder, and Gudrun turned to the child in the cradle and said:
'The red deer is the rising sun.'"

((Pfffffffffffft I wish. >.< I work at the Disney Store Outlets in Sandestin, FL. But in 10 months I get to transfer to the Disney Parks in Orlando and work there! )) The Doctor listened intently as she spoke, rubbing his hands together in a futile effort to keep them warm. He made no interruptions only little sounds hear and there when he would enjoy a certain line or find it interesting. He wondered as she told the story, what she saw. Did it all play out in her mind in a show of colors and images that her brain had created? Her blindness was so fascinating to him that he wondered if it was possible for vampires to be blind. He'd never met a blind vampire in all his years or even a blind human until today. He smiled sadly as her story ended, sorry it was over. "I liked that one a lot." He said, gazing into the fire, "It had a happy ending."

(Oooooooooooooooooooh, but still, that's awesome!!! I bet it's more fun than working at a regular store, and you'll be able to work at the Disney Parks in a little while! ^^) Ivy smiled and nodded. "It did . . . I always liked that she defeated it by outwitting it . . . even though she was so young and at the bottom of the hierarchy in the home . . . it made me think that anyone could accomplish anything when they put their mind to it," she said.

((Oh definitely I just talk about Disney with people and play with kids all day so it's a lot of fun. I'm gonna be a princess in the parks when I transfer! )) The Doctor nodded, leaning back against the log as he gazed into the wild flames before him. "Very inspiring, brawn is nothing if you don't have brains." He said chuckling, "Guess it's my turn to tell a story isn't it?"

Ivy nodded in agreement, but then smiled. "It sure is, give my vocal chords a break," she said with a chuckle.

((Not yet I have no idea. Dx I have to go to a special cast member audition for it and whatnot but I have no doubt I'll get through it. I just have it set in my mind that that's what I'm transferring to. ^-^))
The Doctor chuckled before beginning to speak, "Alright then.. Let's see.."
He frowned, pondering a million different stories trying to find a happy one or at least one with a happy ending to it.
"I can't think of a happy story." He said, frowning.

(Oooooooooh, okay. ^^ Anyone in particular you WANT to be?)
Ivy smiled a bit, though inside she couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sadness for him. He must not have had a very happy life then . . . . it was then that Ivy started to realize that perhaps his jumpy and hyper nature was a mask he put on to disguise a much deeper sadness.
"Well . . . do you have any that are at least hopeful?" she asked.

((Well I would die if I got to be Rapunzel or Ariel because they're my two favorites but I will be happy as ANY of them and a lot of people to get to me multiple princesses if they're face is compatible enough so I'm hoping I can be one of those people. )) The Doctor squinted his eyes a little as he pressed his mind to think harder. "Well perhaps I have one that's hopeful." He cleared his throat before beginning to speak, "There once was a very sad man who lived a long and hard life. He had no friends left and had no intentions on making any new ones but he was a protector of the people, watching after them in the night and keeping them safe if he could. He was content living his life this way for a long time but one day he gave up on it. He no longer saw the meaning in it, everyone ended up dieing one day anyways. What point was there in saving people just for them to die later? So he just watched, never interfering in their affairs. One day though he saw that an orphanage had caught fire and he heard there was still a child trapped inside of it. He couldn't find it in him to watch children die so he jumped into action and saved her and he was prepared to take her to other children and leave but the little girl begged him not to. And when he looked into that little girl's eyes he saw the same look in those eyes that he saw in the mirror everyday. And something changed in him that day, that little girl was his treasure and he took her everywhere with him and protected her from everything that he could...." His voice trailed off as he stared in the fire, suddenly unable to go on. "And they all lived happily ever after traveling, the end!!" He forced out with an upbeat tone.

(well, I got my fingers crossed for you!! ^^ I'm sure you're gonna ACE that audition!!!)
Ivy smiled a bit, though she could hear the forced tone of his voice. "I like that story," she said softly. "He didn't have to be alone anymore,"

((Thank you!! <33 I'll let you know when I actually go to the audition and keep you posted! ^-^))
The Doctor flinched a little upon hearing that, remembering how the story actually turned out in the end. He shook the memories to the back of his mind and looked towards Ivy. "Yes, it's never fun to be alone." He said, smiling ever so slightly.

((Neither can I!! It'll be an adventure I'm sure. XD))
"Agreed. And that's why you and I have to stick together in here." The Doctor said, "Live together, die alone, right?" He meant it as a joke of course but based on their situation maybe it wasn't that funny..
