Oswin's face flushed slightly in frustration, smacking him in the arm with her book. "Don't make fun of my sentence structure." She snapped, "I didn't mean that obviously."

Spike chuckled, not even really noticing her smacking him with the book - it wasn't that hard of a hit, and he was a vampire, after all - though he still rubbed his arm. "Sorry luv, just havin' a little fun," he said with a wink.

Oswin frowned harder when he winked. He wasn't... half bad. She let out a sigh before relenting and saying, "My name's Oswin. What's yours?"

Spike arched an eyebrow. He felt like making a comment about how Oswin was an unusual name . . . but he knew he'd get that thrown right back in his face after she'd heard his. "Spike," he said, leaning back on a bookshelf with his arms crossed.

Oswin smiled a bit at him, "Spike. I like it." She couldn't recall every seeing around here before and part of her felt compelled to tell him that she was there researching vampires, for god knows why. She shook that away quickly though, she didn't need anymore people to think she was crazy. And she'd only just met him after all... But he didn't seem to be oozing with fake politeness like all the other people that she seemed to run into. She chewed it over in her mind, biting her lip slightly as she watched him. "Do you.. do you believe in vampires?" She blurted out.

Spike held back a smirk, and he looked over at Oswin out of the corner of his eye. "Why you askin', luv? Fancy yourself a vampire hunter or somethin'?" he asked. "Cause if you are . . . they're dangerous little buggers, I'll tell you that," he said, still suppressing his grin.

Oswin's eyes widened slightly. "You mean, you've seen one?" She asked, unable to mask the excitement seeping into her tone.

Spike nodded, keeping his face unreadable. "Oh, yeah, seen lots," he said, turning to look at her. "Why this interest in the walkin' leaches anyways?" he asked, genuinely curious.

Oswin stared at him in almost disbelief, the book nearly dropping from her hand. If he was telling the truth and she had no reason to believe that he wasn't than that meant.. "Because that means I'm not crazy." She said, feeling the moisture rising in her eyes. All the friends she'd lost because they thought she was going insane from the trauma of being attacked, all the people in the town who whispered as she walked by thinking that it would go unnoticed. All the people who doubted her.. Were wrong. All of them. She wasn't the crazy one. "I'm not crazy." She repeated, the words feeling like a sweet release.

Spike blinked in surprise, not expecting such an emotional response from the girl. He turned fully to face her, his brow furrowed. "'Course you're not, luv. Have people told you that?"

Oswin nodded slowly, "They all said I was 'experiencing trauma' and 'going crazy'. Those who didn't say it didn't have to, it's pretty obvious that's what they thought.." She felt one of the tears break free, rolling over her cheek. "I was almost starting to believe them."

Spike frowned even deeper. "Trauma? You were attacked by one of 'em?" he asked. He'd attacked and killed quite a few humans himself . . . but still, leaving them alive with the memory to let them think they were crazy . . . that was just cruel. At least use a knife to make the bite mark seem more like a slit and take a bit of their money so it looks more normal.

Oswin's head shot up, "Oh no no! I didn't mean.. Actually.. I got saved by one." She pulled at her sleeves a little, looking at him, "Someone was trying to.. press their advantage on me. A filthy drunk, I could smell the alcohol on his breath.. And when I fought back he got mad and he just started hurting me and I remember falling and hitting my head and I couldn't move but I saw everything.. Till I passed out. I couldn't ever get a good look at his face but he was fast and he had fangs. Vampire fangs. Next thing you know, I wake up in a warm bed, with my head all wrapped and I told everyone my story at first but I don't know what I expected from them..." Almost instinctively her hand reached up to rub at the side of her head, the tears falling steadily now.
"I came here to find something, a clue to lead me to find some kind of truth. I wasn't about to go wander the alleys looking for one.. I'm not stupid..." It'd been a while since she'd spoken about what happened. What truly happened and it was like once she started talking about, she couldn't stop.

Spike frowned at her story. Not the first he'd heard of a vampire saving a human . . . still, this one seemed clumsier than the others.
Spike blinked in alarm at Oswin's freefall of tears. Bollocks, he didn't know how to deal with a crying woman . . . "Well, I believe you luv. Now, what questions you got? Might be I can answer them," he said, partly wondering why he was so readily offering up information to this little human girl . . . but he shrugged it off as extreme boredom.

Oswin wiped hastily at some of her tears, a little startled at the question. She had tons of course but now given the opportunity she wasn't sure where to start. "Do vampires normally save people? How many are out there? Do they all look like regular people? Do they kill people, too..? And are they actually repelled by garlic? I read in a book that vampires can't go into the sun, is that true?" The questions poured out of her and she tried not to throw too many out at once but she couldn't help it. The excitement of having that knowledge granted to her was too much to keep at bay.
